The 22nd Divya Kala Mela is a vibrant celebration dedicated to showcasing the talents and entrepreneurship of persons with disabilities (PwDs). Organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, this event has grown into a significant platform for inclusivity and empowerment.
This year’s edition, hosted in Nagpur, Maharashtra, runs from December 8 to 17, 2024, offering visitors a glimpse into the creativity and craftsmanship of over 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from 20 states and Union Territories. These participants present a diverse array of products, including home décor, clothing, eco-friendly goods, jewelry, toys, and organic food items.
The event also celebrates culture, featuring performances by Divyang artists and renowned professionals. Alongside the artistry, the mela provides a “vocal for local” experience by promoting locally crafted goods, supporting economic opportunities for PwDs, and enhancing their visibility in mainstream markets.
The Divya Kala Mela began in 2016 and has since been held in cities across India, such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. It aims to inspire inclusivity while addressing the economic empowerment of Divyangjan by showcasing their extraordinary determination and talent.
Beyond being a marketplace, the event emphasizes awareness about the abilities of PwDs, reinforcing the message of empowerment through entrepreneurship and art. It invites the public to celebrate and support the remarkable achievements of these artists and artisans.
