Google has launched Gemini Spark, its next-generation AI agent, in India, marking a significant step beyond traditional AI chatbots. Designed to function as a 24/7 personal AI assistant, Gemini Spark can perform tasks autonomously in the background—even when a user’s phone is locked or laptop is shut down—as it runs on Google’s cloud infrastructure.
Powered by the Gemini 3.6 model, the AI agent is designed to assist users with everyday productivity tasks. Unlike conventional AI assistants that respond only when prompted, Gemini Spark can proactively monitor tasks, summarize meeting notes, organize emails, retrieve information, and send alerts based on user-defined preferences.
Works Across Google Workspace
Gemini Spark integrates directly with Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Drive, and other Google Workspace services, enabling users to automate routine tasks without switching between applications. It can summarize important emails, prepare meeting notes, update documents, and even add relevant information to Google Docs automatically.
The AI agent can also connect with supported third-party applications to retrieve information and complete assigned tasks. It is capable of tracking topics of interest, finding local events based on user preferences, and sending timely notifications.
Runs in the Background
One of Gemini Spark’s key features is its ability to continue working in the cloud even when a user’s device is inactive. Google says users can assign long-running tasks to the AI, which will complete them independently and notify users when results are ready. However, for more significant actions, the AI will seek the user’s permission before proceeding.
Initially Available to AI Pro and Ultra Subscribers
The rollout in India is currently limited to users subscribed to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, with availability expanding gradually. Google has positioned Gemini Spark as an AI productivity tool aimed at students, professionals, businesses, and creators, with features tailored to local user needs in India.
Selfie Video Sign-In Introduced
Alongside Gemini Spark, Google has also introduced a selfie video sign-in feature, designed to provide an additional layer of identity verification and account security.
Industry observers see Gemini Spark as Google’s most ambitious attempt yet to transform AI from a conversational assistant into an autonomous digital agent capable of handling complex, multi-step tasks with minimal user intervention. (IANS-arc)
