
OpenAI has appointed Prabhjeet Singh as its Managing Director for India, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion in one of its fastest-growing global markets. The appointment was announced on June 26, and Singh is scheduled to assume office in September 2026. He will report to Kiran Mani, OpenAI’s Managing Director for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
To Lead OpenAI’s India Operations
As OpenAI’s senior-most executive in India, Singh will oversee the company’s overall strategy in the country. His responsibilities will include driving consumer growth, accelerating enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence, building strategic partnerships, engaging with regulators and policymakers, and managing business operations.
The appointment underscores OpenAI’s growing focus on India, which the company has identified as its second-largest market after the United States.
Brings More Than a Decade of Leadership Experience
Before joining OpenAI, Prabhjeet Singh served as President of Uber India and South Asia for nearly 11 years. During his tenure, he led Uber’s mobility business across India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, overseeing expansion, innovation, and business growth in the region.
Expansion Plans in India
OpenAI has been steadily expanding its presence in India. The company opened its first office in New Delhi in November 2025 and has announced plans to establish additional offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru as part of its long-term growth strategy.
Singh will play a key role in strengthening partnerships across India’s AI ecosystem, working with businesses, educational institutions, developers, startups, government agencies, and consumers to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies.
