Ladakh is a pristine paradise situated in India which also has its own Moonland! Surprised? Isn’t it? But here comes the story of the Moonland, which not many people know about.

There is a small town in Ladakh called as Lamayuru, which is  situated about 115kms from Leh town. The strange rock formations in this town is said to resemble the surface of the moon and hence this place is named as moonland. In fact, it is also called as Lamayuru Moonlands. Now let’s figure out other significant places of this territory which lure tourists from all across: 

  1. Ladakh offers beautiful landscapes: Bounded by two of the world’s mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, Ladakh offers fabulous landscapes, amazing people and mystic culture to the tourists visiting this place from different parts of the world.

  1.  A union territory now, it offers great tourist attractions: Leh-Ladakh, earlier, were a part of Jammu & Kashmir. However, Ladakh was administered a union territory on October 31, 2019. Now, Ladakh is divided into two districts: Leh and Kargil. While Leh makes a great tourist destination because of its lovely monasteries, picturesque surroundings, and fascinating markets, Ladakh makes an adventure playground for climbing, jeeps tours, rafting and high-altitude trekking.
  2. Watch the waters changing its shades in Ladakh’s Pangong Lake:  This is the most popular tourist attraction in Ladakh which is situated at the height of 4350 metres. Also known as Pangong Tso, the lake stretches to 12 kilometres in length and goes from India to Tibet. The serene lake keeps changing its colours from azure to light blue, from light blue to green, and from green to grey at different times. The Bollywood movie “3 Idiots” was shot here and hence many tourists visit this place out of their inquisitiveness to see the unique yet pretty location.   3. See the wonders of Magnetic Hills: Ladakh also houses a popular Magnetic Hill of Ladakh where vehicles fight the force of gravity and move up towards the hill when parked at a certain marked location. This hill is situated at 30 km distance from Leh on Leh-Kargil highway.
