In a recent customer satisfaction survey conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal and Khajuraho Airport have emerged as the top-ranked airports among AAI-operated airports across the country. The survey, which evaluated passenger experience at 58 domestic airports, reflects growing emphasis on service quality and passenger convenience beyond major metro hubs.
The latest results show that both airports achieved near-perfect scores in the evaluation, indicating high levels of satisfaction among travellers for facility standards, operational efficiency and overall service quality. These rankings highlight the progress being made by smaller and mid-sized airports in enhancing the travel experience for passengers.
Airport survey, what it means
The AAI customer satisfaction survey assesses airports on various parameters including ease of check-in and security procedures, cleanliness, signage, availability of amenities, staff behaviour, waiting areas and overall passenger convenience. Airports are scored on a scale where higher scores indicate better performance and greater satisfaction among flyers.
In the latest survey cycle, both Bhopal and Khajuraho airports scored exceptionally well, with top marks that placed them above many larger facilities in other states. A score close to five out of five reflects that passengers found these airports efficient, comfortable and user-friendly in most categories evaluated.
Airport top rankings, know the factors behind it
Airport officials attribute the strong performance of both Bhopal and Khajuraho to targeted improvements in infrastructure and services. At Raja Bhoj Airport, enhancements such as faster security processing, improved terminal interiors, digital solutions like DigiYatra integration and thoughtful passenger-friendly features have helped deliver smoother travel experiences.
Similarly, Khajuraho Airport has focused on cleanliness, clear signage, courteous staff and well-maintained facilities to ensure a positive impression on travellers. Given its role as a key gateway to the region’s tourist destinations, efforts to maintain high standards of service have resonated well with passengers.
Bhopal and Khajuraho Airport Top Ranking: Broader significance and regional aviation growth
The recognition of Bhopal and Khajuraho as top airports underscores the broader trend of decentralisation in India’s civil aviation sector, where regional airports are receiving greater attention and investment. Strengthening connectivity and improving airport experiences are central to expanding air travel access in smaller cities and boosting tourism, business travel and local economic growth.
In recent years, Madhya Pradesh has actively pursued aviation development through policies aimed at increasing airport reach and connectivity across the state. This includes plans for new airports and enhanced services at existing ones to support tourism and regional mobility.
Khajuraho Bhopal Airport Top Ranking : Future outlook
With air travel continuing to grow domestically, the success of mid-sized airports in surveys like the AAI’s customer satisfaction assessment may encourage further investments in passenger facilities, technology and service enhancements. Officials in Bhopal and Khajuraho have indicated that maintaining high standards will remain a priority as they aim to build on this achievement and strengthen their roles as important nodes in India’s expanding air transport network.
