Shreyas Iyer has cemented his reputation as one of the most impactful captains in IPL history by taking a third team to the final within five years. In 2020, he led Delhi Capitals to their first-ever IPL final, though they fell short against Mumbai Indians. In 2024, he captained Kolkata Knight Riders to a title win. Now, in 2025, Iyer has steered Punjab Kings to the final — their first appearance since 2014.
Punjab last reached the final over a decade ago, where they lost to Kolkata. Under Iyer’s leadership, the team made a strong comeback and even created history by defending the lowest total in IPL history. Batting first, Punjab managed just 111 runs, but bowled out Kolkata for only 95.
Iyer also delivered key performances throughout the season, especially in away games. He is Punjab’s top run-scorer this year with 603 runs.
