National Voters’ Day: Know date, celebration and theme

The National Voters’ Day is celebrated each year on January 25 to mark the establishment of the Election Commission of India in 1950.

Voting is a fundamental right for each citizen in a democracy which allows individuals to choose their political leaders, their development and wellness programme which they want for their community. 

Each year, National Voters’ Day is commemorated on January 25 to address urge people to vote.

The celebration of National Voter’s Day focusses on awareness activities being undertaken by the Indian government and NGOs and organizations. The purpose of the celebration is to encourage people to vote and make the procedure of registering to vote easier.

‘Making Elections Inclusive,  Accessible and Participative’ is the theme for National Voter’s Day 2022. 

National Voter’s Day History

On January 25, 2022, the Election Commission of India was established in 1950. 

In 2011, Pratibha Devi Patil, the then-President of India, initiated the celebration of National  Voter’s Day and the initiative has raised awareness about the significance of voting, as well as the history and contributions of the Election commission of India.
