National Space Day is celebrated annually on August 23, commemorating the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s south pole on August 23, 2023. With this mission, India became the fourth country in the world to achieve a soft landing on the Moon—and the first to reach the lunar south polar region.
The Government of India declared this day as National Space Day to recognize this historic feat and to honor ISRO’s legacy of innovation and excellence in space exploration.
