Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, comes from the Sanskrit words dasha (ten) and hara (defeat), symbolising the triumph of Lord Rama over the ten-headed Ravana. As the grand finale of Navratri, the festival is celebrated across India in unique ways: Ramleela enactments and Ravana effigy burnings in North India, Durga idol immersions in the East, and prayers, processions, and cultural traditions in the South and West.
Traditionally, students also honour their teachers on this day by offering dakshina (a token of gratitude).
