Shooter Dadi Chandro Tomar: An 89-Year-Old Sharpshooter

0

Chandro Tomar is believed to be the oldest professional sharpshooter in the world, and she won dozens of medals to prove her credential.

She’s also a feminist icon in India, having mentored and coached dozens of young women in her village and beyond for more than 20 years. A Bollywood movie, Saandh Ki Ankh, is based on her life and that of her sister-in-law, Prakashi Tomar, a fellow competitor.

Ms. Tomar was over 65 when she picked up a gun for the first time, and the arrival of a diminutive older woman from the rural heartland — dressed in her traditional long skirt and head scarf — provoked derision and laughter among participants and spectators during professional competitions. Since then, she has won over 25 medals at state and larger contests, usually competing against men who’ve been shooting professionally for decades.

Japan Where Married Couples Sleep Separately

0

Japan is one country where married couples sleep separately!

Surprised? But then, it is fact! The first thing because of which Japanese couples decide to go to bed separately is their different work schedules.

Waking up your other half just because you got home late from work or if you have to leave early won’t result in a good quality rest for them. This is why spending the night in a different room makes sense.

The Ram Temple in Ayodhya is being built by the Sompura family of temple architects, led by the patriarch Chandrakant Sompura who first visited the historic site where the Babri Masjid once stood over 30 years ago.

Chandrakant Sompura comes from a family background who has a long history of designing temples.

His father Prabhakar Sompura was the architect of the Somnath Temple in Gujarat as well as for the temple in Mathura, Lord Krishna’s mythological birthplace.

Chandrakant Sompura followed his father’s footsteps and has designed 131 temples, along with his son Ashish which includes the Swami Narayan Temple in Gandhinagar, Ambaji Temple in Palanpur and several others.

According to Chandrakant, “It was our family that designed Somnath temple, apart from others like Mathura, Palanpur etc. It is a big thing for us that same family has been designing the Ram temple. It is a matter of pride for us. However, the architecture remains same — the Nagraj style. The style in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh is the same for years — Nagraj style,” he added.

According to him, the project is likely to be completed in the next three years once the work commences.

Rajinikanth : A man who scripted his success story by his hard work

0

Rajinikanth’s, the larger-than-life superstar, had an interesting journey to reach to the top of the pantheon of Indian cinema as he was initially a bus conductor who later joined films at 25.

His success story was anything but typical.

Starting his early life as a bus conductor in Karnataka, he joined films at the age of 25.

His first big commercial hit came with his 25th outing. On screen, he performed in black and white, colour, 3D and motion capture. Off it, he never hid his balding pate and greying beard.

According to R Kannan, the author of MGR: A Life, Rajinikanth was an actor who defied the grammar of charisma.

He said Rajini equalled M G Ramachandran in his acting career. But the difference lay in the former’s reluctance in consciously building an image.

Rajini will be bestowed the government’s highest honour for Indian cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

He thanked many people for making a significant contribution in shaping his life which included his friend, the bus driver Raj Bahadur (who he dedicated the award to), for encouraging him to travel to Chennai, then Madras, to pursue acting.

He also thanked his brother Sathyanarayana Rao Gaikwad, for “many sacrifices” he made to fulfil his dreams amid the difficulties in early life.

His mentor, the late Tamil filmmaker K Balachander, who gave him his “first break”, catalysing his transformation from Shivaji Rao Gaikwad to ‘Rajinikanth’ as well as to his “friend”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The others who were expressed gratitude by the veteran actor included producers, directors, technicians, distributors, theatre owners and the media. And, especially, the “Tamil people who have helped me thrive, and my fans all over the world”, the legendary actor said.
