At a time when the world is grappling with stress, burnout, and fast-paced living, Finland is offering something truly unique—a chance not just to travel, but to experience happiness as a way of life. Through its innovative “Chill Like a Finn” initiative, the country is inviting people from across the globe to take part in a 7-day all-expenses-paid summer challenge in its serene Lakeland region.
What is the Happiness Challenge?
Launched by Visit Finland, the initiative is designed to help participants understand why Finland consistently ranks at the top of the World Happiness Report. Instead of conventional tourism, this programme focuses on immersive living—embracing simplicity, nature, and mindfulness.
A select group of six pairs (12 participants) from around the world will be chosen to spend a week in June 2026 discovering what it truly means to “chill like a Finn.”
What Makes This Experience Unique?
The challenge takes place in the breathtaking Finnish Lakeland—a region known for its vast network of lakes, forests, and tranquil landscapes.
Here, participants will:
●Stay in lakeside cottages and scenic accommodations
●Experience traditional Finnish sauna culture and lake swims
●Explore forests through hiking, cycling, and nature walks
●Enjoy activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and even rafting
●Disconnect from digital distractions and embrace slow living
The experience is designed as a road trip across Lakeland, with all travel, accommodation, and activities arranged for selected participants.
How to Apply
The application process is simple but creative:
●Apply in pairs (friends, partners, or family)
●Submit an online application form
●Share a short video on social media describing your idea of a Finnish summer
The application window closed on March 29, 2026, with winners to be announced in April and the experience scheduled from June 11 to June 18, 2026.
Why It Matters in Today’s World
This initiative goes beyond tourism—it reflects a global shift towards mental well-being and sustainable lifestyles. Finland’s idea of happiness is rooted in small everyday moments—nature, silence, balance, and community, rather than material success.
In an era of digital overload and constant hustle, this challenge offers a powerful message:
happiness is not something to chase, but something to practice daily.
More Than a Trip—A Life Lesson
Finland’s 7-day Happiness Challenge is not just a free vacation—it is an opportunity to reset, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters. By opening its doors to the world, Finland is sharing a timeless lesson:
Sometimes, the secret to happiness lies not in doing more—but in slowing down, breathing deeply, and simply living better.
