The foremost nuclear research center in India is called BARC, short for Bhabha Atomic Research Center. Thus, It was established by Homi Jehangir Bhabha in January 1954.

BARC’s mission is to carry out interdisciplinary research that is crucial to India’s nuclear program. It also works in fields like physics, engineering, biosciences, and chemistry.

BARC B1201 being the first of its kind in India and just the fifth worldwide, the introduction of this CRM is a noteworthy accomplishment.

A CRM is a representative of a substance that has undergone examination and certification for composition, purity, and other crucial features. It serves as a benchmark for the comparison of additional samples of the same substance, guaranteeing that the outcomes from other laboratories are similar.

BARC B1201 was formally introduced by Dr. A. C. Sahayam, Head of Division, National Centre for Compositional Characterization of Materials, and Shri M.P. Mishra, Director (P&T), NALCO. On March 24, 2023, the launch took place at the NALCO Research & Technology Center in Bhubaneswar.
