Tulsi plant is considered very sacred in Hinduism. It is believed that Lord Vishnu resides in the form of Shaligram near the roots of Tulsi.

Also, there is a strong believe that the house with a Tulsi plant removes negativity and ushers in happiness. 

Ekadashi day of Kartik month is called Devotthan Ekadashi. It is believed that on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi, there is a tradition of Shaligram being married to Goddess Tulsi in the form of Lord Vishnu. 

So on this Ekadashi, Tulsi Vivah is solemnised.

In the evening, a lamp should be lit in front of Tulsi. Married women worshipping Tulsi Mata on this day get a happy life. During Tulsi marriage, the aarti of Lord Shaligram and Mother Tulsi must be recited. By doing this, Mother Tulsi gives freedom from diseases and defects and Lord Shaligram fulfills all the wishes.
