Instagram is working on a new feature “Favourites” which will bypass the stated algorithm and will allow the users to modify their own timeline by putting specific accounts under the section, that are available in the user’s settings.
Instagram, one of the highest trending social media applications, uses the same algorithm as Facebook to determine the posts that are first shown on our timeline.
According to Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, it focuses on signals like content and popularity of the post, interaction of the past few weeks with the person who posted, and history of liking or commenting on someone’s post.
While these signals might be useful, we still miss some content from our friends, relatives or even favourite influencers due to this order of importance. And scrolling through the whole timeline just to find a certain post isn’t exactly a great pastime, even for a bored mind.
The new feature “Favourites”, which the company is working upon, will bypass the stated algorithm and will allow the users to modify their own timeline by putting specific accounts under the section, which will be available in the user’s settings.
Instagram has not officially confirmed the release of the feature, though the company can make some final changes before introducing it to the users. And if it works the same way as Facebook, then users will be able to add up to 30 friends under the “Favourites” section.
Alessandro Paluzzi, a mobile developer who introduces himself as reverse engineer, confirmed on twitter, that Instagram is working on ‘favourites’.
