BRICS Summit 2026: India is set to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, 2026, as the country takes over the BRICS chairship for the fourth time. The summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, bringing together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries, along with invited leaders and international representatives.
The 2026 summit is particularly significant as BRICS marks 20 years since its establishment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host the summit, with Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed to attend. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also expected to participate.

The BRICS Leaders’ Summit 2026 will be held on:

The BRICS Business Forum will take place on September 11 at Bharat Mandapam. A meeting of the Women’s Business Alliance is also scheduled alongside the Business Forum.
Why Is India Hosting BRICS in 2026?
India assumed the BRICS chairship on January 1, 2026, marking its fourth term after previously chairing the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021.
The theme of India’s BRICS chairship is:
“Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”
The theme reflects India’s broader approach of “Humanity First” and focuses on making BRICS cooperation more practical, inclusive and development-oriented. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements have been organised across more than 25 Indian cities during the year-long chairship.
BRICS Summit 2026: Key Agenda and Priorities
The summit will focus on the three traditional pillars of BRICS cooperation:
- Political and security cooperation
- Economic and financial cooperation
- Cultural and people-to-people exchanges
Key issues expected to feature in the discussions include resilient supply chains, trade, cross-border payments, national currencies, MSMEs, digital trade, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Energy security, climate resilience, development finance, the New Development Bank and reform of global governance institutions are also expected to be discussed.
A joint BRICS Leaders’ Declaration is expected, subject to agreement among member countries.

BRICS Summit 2026: Key Leaders Expected in Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host the summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed his participation. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also expected to attend, although formal confirmation was pending at the time of the latest reports. If he travels to India, it would be his first visit since his 2019 meeting with Modi in Mamallapuram.
Other leaders expected to participate include South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul are also expected to attend.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is also likely to participate, although a formal confirmation is awaited.
BRICS Summit 2026: Security and Traffic Arrangements in Delhi
With several heads of state and government expected in the national capital, extensive security and traffic arrangements are being put in place.
September 11 has been declared a holiday for Delhi government offices, while Central Government offices located in Delhi will also remain closed that day to facilitate logistical arrangements and reduce public inconvenience.
Security deployment and traffic restrictions are expected around key locations during the summit because of VVIP movements.
