Amid the sprawling expanse of the Hingonia Cow Rehabilitation Centre, one of Rajasthan’s largest shelters dedicated to the care of abandoned and rescued cattle, a new chapter has begun. This time, it is not about building more sheds or expanding veterinary care, but about nurturing young minds.
The launch of Akshay Vidyalaya marks an ambitious attempt to redefine education by placing values, compassion and social responsibility alongside academics. Conceived within the premises of the Hingonia Cow Rehabilitation Centre, the school seeks to create an environment where education is shaped not only by textbooks but also by empathy, discipline and a sense of service.
The school was inaugurated by Gurucharan Gill, Senior Advocate at the Rajasthan High Court; Vijay Poonia, member of the High Court Committee overseeing the Hingonia Cow Rehabilitation Centre; and Soumya Gurjar, former Mayor of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Greater).
Speaking at the inauguration, Gurucharan Gill said the strength of any nation ultimately rests on the quality of its education system.
“Education should not merely produce doctors, engineers or civil servants. Its larger purpose is to shape responsible citizens who uphold honesty, sensitivity, dedication to duty and patriotism. When education is rooted in sanskar (values), society naturally becomes more ethical and socially responsible,” he said.
The school’s founders envision Akshay Vidyalaya as more than an academic institution. Alongside science, mathematics and languages, students will be introduced to Indian culture, moral education, yoga, environmental conservation, personality development, discipline and social responsibility. Cow welfare, a defining feature of the Hingonia campus, will also form part of the institution’s broader value-based learning.
Trustee Raghupati Das believes education must go beyond academic excellence.
“Education becomes meaningful only when it nurtures wisdom, compassion, morality and the spirit of service. A society where learning and values progress together creates empowered families, responsible citizens and ultimately a stronger nation,” he said.
The initiative reflects a growing conversation around value-based education at a time when schools across the country are increasingly looking beyond examination scores to focus on character building and holistic development.
Those associated with the project say Akshay Vidyalaya aims to become a model for quality education in rural Rajasthan by offering modern learning while remaining rooted in Indian cultural traditions. They hope the school will benefit not only children connected with the gaushala but also families across the Hingonia region.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by office-bearers of the Hingonia Cow Rehabilitation Centre, educationists, social workers, gau-sevaks, villagers and local residents, many of whom described the initiative as a meaningful convergence of education, community service and cultural values.
For the Hingonia campus, long recognised as a sanctuary for cattle, the opening of Akshay Vidyalaya signals an expansion of its mission—from protecting lives to shaping futures.
