A Major Boost to Urban Transport
In a significant push towards modern urban infrastructure, the Union Cabinet has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project, a massive ₹13,038 crore initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity across the Pink City. The project marks a major milestone in Rajasthan’s public transport development and is expected to redefine commuting in Jaipur.
Route and Key Features
The proposed Phase 2 will develop a 41-kilometre North–South metro corridor, connecting Prahladpura (Sitapura area) in the south to Todi Mod in the north. The corridor will include 36 stations, covering key residential, industrial, and commercial hubs across the city.
Importantly, parts of the corridor—especially near sensitive zones like the airport—will include underground sections, while most of the route will be elevated. This design aims to balance efficiency with minimal disruption in densely populated areas.
Improved Connectivity Across Key Areas
The new metro line will significantly improve access to major locations such as Sitapura Industrial Area, Vishwakarma Industrial Area, Jaipur Airport, and SMS Hospital. It will also integrate with the existing Phase 1 corridor, creating a seamless and expanded metro network across Jaipur.
This integration is expected to increase ridership substantially, building on the current daily usage of the metro and encouraging a shift towards public transport.
Implementation and Timeline
The project will be executed by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (RMRCL) under a 50:50 joint venture between the central and state governments. Construction is planned in multiple phases, allowing simultaneous work across different sections to speed up completion.
The metro expansion is expected to be completed by 2031, aligning with broader urban mobility and sustainability goals.
A Step Towards Sustainable Mobility
Jaipur Metro Phase 2 is more than just an infrastructure project—it is a step towards reducing traffic congestion, lowering pollution, and promoting sustainable urban transport. The project aligns with national initiatives and Rajasthan’s Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy, focusing on efficient and eco-friendly mobility solutions.
Transforming the Pink City
Once completed, Phase 2 will connect key economic and residential zones, boost local businesses, and improve daily life for thousands of commuters. As Jaipur continues to grow, this metro expansion is poised to become the backbone of its urban transport system—making travel faster, cleaner, and more efficient.
