In a significant boost to Jaipur’s international air connectivity, Jaipur Airport has launched a new terminal exclusively for international travelers. Located in Sanganer, this new facility marks a return to the site of Jaipur’s original airport before the operations were moved to the now-existing Terminal 2. This development aims to enhance Jaipur’s position as a global travel hub, elevating the Pink City’s accessibility for foreign visitors and residents.
The new terminal, inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, became operational on October 27, with the first flight arrival being an Air India Express from Dubai just after midnight. With the capacity to handle up to 1.5 million passengers per year, the terminal aims to support Jaipur’s growing demand for international routes, particularly those to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Currently, the airport offers six international destinations, primarily catering to a working-class population who frequently travel to the Gulf for business and employment.
Modern Amenities with a Cultural Touch
The new terminal brings modern comforts alongside Jaipur’s rich heritage. Spanning 128,000 square feet, the facility has been thoughtfully designed with motifs that showcase Jaipur’s cultural essence, featuring camels, elephants, peacocks, palaces, and forts. A unique color palette of vibrant orange and purple flows through the terminal, enhanced by intricate wood carvings and traditional jaali work, paying homage to the architectural marvels that make Jaipur iconic.
This international terminal is well-equipped for convenience and efficiency. With 10 check-in counters, duty-free shops, food and beverage outlets, and a spacious passenger lounge, the terminal is designed to make travel seamless. Additional amenities include medical facilities and an on-site ambulance, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for all passengers.
Focus on Sustainability and Advanced Facilities
Beyond aesthetics and passenger comfort, the terminal has been built with sustainability at its core. The facility incorporates recyclable materials across its structure, embodying Jaipur’s commitment to responsible infrastructure. This sustainable approach aligns with global standards in airport design, marking Jaipur’s new terminal as a model for eco-friendly airport operations. Advanced security features also ensure that passengers experience both efficiency and peace of mind while traveling through the facility.
After years of closure, this newly revitalized Terminal 1 serves as a state-of-the-art gateway for international travelers, offering enhanced connectivity and comfort. With this grand opening, Jaipur Airport not only welcomes travelers to a modernized facility but also provides them with a cultural journey that begins right at the airport. The blend of heritage and modernity in this terminal reflects the spirit of Jaipur itself—where the past and present harmoniously coexist, making it more than just an airport but a fitting entry to the Pink City.
