This event not only celebrates Dr. Bothra’s invaluable contributions but also serves as a platform for thought-provoking discussions on the future of design education in India.
Honoring Dr. Sanjeev Bothra
Dr. Sanjeev Bothra, a visionary in the realm of design education, dedicated his life to promoting socially responsible design practices. His book is a culmination of years of research and experience, providing insights into how design can address societal challenges and foster sustainable development. This launch event stands as a tribute to his enduring legacy.
Memorial Lecture by Prof. Ashoke Chatterjee
The highlight of the event will be the Sanjeev Bothra Memorial Lecture, delivered by the eminent Prof. Ashoke Chatterjee. As the former Executive Director of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, Prof. Chatterjee has been a towering figure in the field. His lecture, titled “Design Education: Fitness for What Purpose,” promises to be an illuminating discourse on the relevance and direction of design education in contemporary society.
Book Release Ceremony
The book release will be officiated by a distinguished panel of experts in design and education:
- Prof. Aditi Ranjan: A revered textile design teacher, practitioner, and researcher, Prof. Ranjan has spent four decades at NID and co-authored “Handmade in India,” an encyclopaedia of Indian handicrafts.
- Prof. Himadri Ghosh: Former Dean and Director of Banasthali Institute of Design, Prof. Ghosh has been instrumental in shaping design education frameworks.
- Prof. Jatin Bhatt: The founding Dean of the School of Design at Ambedkar University, Prof. Bhatt is known for his innovative approaches to design education.
- Prof. Sangita Shroff: The Dean and Director of the Institute of Design at Nirma University, Prof. Shroff brings a wealth of experience in fostering design thinking.
Nita Mukherjee, the editor of Dr. Bothra’s book, will also be present, adding her unique perspective on the book’s creation and significance.
