Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan celebrates his birthday on March 5.
MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on March 4, wrote a letter to the people of the state urging them to plant a sapling instead of gifting him garland and bouquet.
In his tweet, CM said that he has planted tree a day before his birthday. “I have planted a sapling on my birthday and appeal you all to plant trees instead of gifting me garlands and bouquets. There is no need to raise slogans for me, instead, just plant a sapling and my birthday will become meaningful,” he said.
In his letter to people of the state, he said, “Although our government is doing meaningful work, but there has been a feeling in the mind that the birthday should be made purposeful and hence have pledged to plant one plant every day for a year. Our environment is deteriorating due to indiscriminate felling of trees. The surface temperature of the Earth is constantly increasing and it is estimated that by 2050, it will increase by 2 degree Celsius and then the conditions will be such that the existence of human beings and animals on the earth will be difficult.”
It is a matter of pride and happiness that the forest area of the state has increased continuously and we should attempt at increasing the forest area more.
I pray that you do not celebrate the joy of this birthday by welcoming me with a bouquet, instead plant a tree. You should plant a tree on any auspicious occasion of your life. There is oxygen if there is a tree, there is life if there is oxygen. Therefore the tree is also life. I will celebrate my birthday by planting trees, he said.
