As we celebrate Hindi Diwas, here comes a few amazing facts about Hindi which we should all know…

1. Hindi is the fifth most widely spoken language as 366 million people across the globe use it for communication

2. Many countries including Pakistan, Germany, New Zealand, US etc have people communicating in Hindi. Even countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Trinidad, Mauritius, Guyana, Suriname and South Africa have Hindi echoing across their streets.

3. Hindi is based on modern Devanagari script which came into existence in the 11th century.

4. Many Hindi words have also been accepted in English which include yoga, jungle, karma, mantra, khaki, avatar,etc. Aadhaar, dabba, hartal, shaadi among 26 new Indian English words added to Oxford Dictionary

5. Hindi language is easy to learn as each letter of the Hindi alphabet has its independent and individual sound. Eventually, Hindi words can be pronounced the way they are written.

6.In the year 1881, Bihar was the first state to announce Hindi as its official language after replacing Urdu.

7. In Hindi, every noun has its own gender, either masculine or feminine which makes it all the more rational in its reading.
