Bhai Dooj or Bhau Beej is celebrated on the second day of the Shukla Paksha of the lunar calendar and is similar to Rakshabandhan observed to mark the brother-sister bond.
The festival is celebrated as a part of the five day celebrations which start from Dhanteras, next comes Roop Chaudhas, then comes Diwali which is followed by Goverdhan Pooja. Bhai Dooj is celebrated on fifth day of celebration as a special bond of brothers and sisters.
On Bhai Dooj,sisters put a tilak on brothers’ forehead and pray for their long and happy life. They also prepare a luscious feast for their brothers on this occasion. Later, siblings exchange presents, sweets and blessings and this marks the end of the five-day long celebration of joy, lights and radiance.
